Pulsed field ionization of Rydberg atoms
نویسنده
چکیده
Fully quantum and classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations are performed for a Rydberg alkali atom that is kicked by a pulsed electric field. The two calculations are compared to recent experimental results through the ionization probability versus peak field strength. The energy distribution of the final electrons are compared between the two calculations. There is a qualitative difference between the classical and quantum momentum distribution which is measurable in principle. An experiment to detect the time dependent precession of the orbital angular momentum in Cs is also proposed. 32.80.Rm,32.60+.i Typeset using REVTEX

Systematic observation of tunneling field-ionization in highly excited Rb Rydberg atoms
Pulsed field ionization of high-n (90 ≤ n ≤ 150) manifold states in Rb Rydberg atoms has been investigated in high slew-rate regime. Two peaks in the field ionization spectra were systematically observed for the investigated n region, where the field values at the lower peak do not almost depend on the excitation energy in the manifold, while those at the higher peak increase with increasing ex...

متن کاملEffects of imperfect unipolarity on the ionization of Rydberg atoms by subpicosecond half-cycle pulses.
In recent experiments [1,2], Rydberg atoms have been exposed to ultrashort, electric-field pulses. The electric field in these pulses is nearly unipolar, and has a temporal shape which resembles one-half of a cycle of THz-band radiation [3]. In the experiments [1,2], the 0.5-psec dura tion of these "half-cycle pulses" (HCPs), 1"HCP' is shorter than or comparable to the classical Kepler period ...
متن کامل2 00 9 Ionization of Rydberg atoms by blackbody radiation
We have studied ionization of alkali-metal Rydberg atoms by blackbody radiation (BBR). The results of theoretical calculations of ionization rates of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs Rydberg atoms are presented. The calculations have been performed for nS, nP and nD states for principal quantum numbers n=8-65 at ambient temperatures of 77, 300 and 600 K. The calculations take into account the contributions...
متن کاملManipulating ionization path in a Stark map: Stringent schemes for the selective field ionization in highly excited Rb Rydberg atoms
We have developed a quite stringent method in selectivity to ionize the low angularmomentum (l) states which lie below and above the adjacent manifold in highly excited Rb Rydberg atoms. The method fully exploits the pulsed field-ionization characteristics of the manifold states in high slew-rate regime: Specifically the low l state below (above) the adjacent manifold is firstly transferred to ...
